David Fratantoni was trained as an engineer and an oceanographer. He graduated from Virginia Tech with a B.S. in Ocean Engineering in 1990. He spent the next 6 years earning his Ph.D in Meteorology and Physical Oceanography from the University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science, as well as traveling on ships to perform ocean research all over the world.
David Fratantoni was recently the Chief Technology Officer for Horizon Marine, Inc., a company providing environmental forecasting to the offshore energy industry. Previously, David was a scientist with the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution working on the exploration of ocean circulation, interactions between ocean physics and biology, and development of autonomous sensors, platforms, and observing systems.
